At the start of the American Civil War, in the spring of 1861, baseball was a national sport. The first official game of baseball is said by historians to have been played on June 19, 1846, at the Elysian Fields, in Hoboken, New Jersey, between the Knickerbockers and the New Yorks. An historical monument marks the spot where this game was played.

During the war, both Union and Confederate soldiers participated in baseball games as a means to combat their boredom and boost morale, and encourage camaraderie.

I have been collecting sports memorabilia for over 60 years and have decided that the time has come for me to pass on some of these fine authentic collectibles to a new home. Most of the items that I am offering on these pages come from my personal collection, with many of them being obtained in person by myself, or my father, or my Godfather, at various sporting events at such legendary places as the original Yankee Stadium, the remodeled Yankee Stadium, the Polo Grounds, Ebbets Field, Shea Stadium (New York), Fenway Park (Boston), Veterans Stadium (Philadelphia), Forbes Field (Pittsburgh), Riverfront Stadium (Cincinnati), Busch Stadium (St. Louis), Royals Stadium (Kansas City), Dodger Stadium (Los Angeles), Angels Stadium (Anaheim), Candlestick Park (San Francisco), Memorial Stadium and Camden Yards (Baltimore), Jarry Park and Olympic Stadium (Montreal), Hincliffe Stadium, the historic Negro League Ballpark in Paterson, New Jersey, a field I had the honor to pitch on and various other MLB and Minor League parks across America. Some were obtained at the world famous Madison Square Garden in New York City. Others were gotten at award dinners, team functions, charity affairs, and sports conventions that I have attended. I also got some of them through the associations of my Dad who was heavily involved with the American Legion baseball program nationally, and consequently knew many MLB scouts, ex-MLB players, and umpires. My Godfather, a World War II navy veteran, who was an artist and photographer, worked for the New York Daily News in the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's. He was a great source for sports memorabilia for me, and I always tagged along with him whenever it was possible. He also used to give me these great old black and white photos from the AP wire service of the NFL, NBA, and MLB, some that he or I were able to get signed. I hope you will enjoy looking at these items, and possibly find some goodies that you will want to add to your own collections. As a footnote, many of these historical figures have passed away, and some of them are difficult to find!

Stop back often as I will be adding many more autographs to this category as time allows. I have collected probably close to 3,000 sports autographs during my life! If you are looking for anybody in particular please send me an email inquiry.
