7 3/4 x 2 3/4, imprinted form, filled out in ink. $3.33 Received of Mary Oliver, Three dollars and 33 cents, Tax for the year 1831, her taxable property consisting of 160 Acres of land. Also lists 1 Slave at lower right just above the signature of C. Steele, the tax collector of Warren County, [Mississippi]. Endorsed by Mary Oliver on the reverse. Light age toning and wear. Very fine early 1800's tax receipt listing a slave as taxable property.

1862 Confederate Business Letter From Augusta, Georgia Regarding Cotton

Folded letter used as the envelope to mail the correspondence from Augusta, Ga. to Graniteville, S.C.


7 1/2 x 8 1/2, in ink, written by B.S. Dunbar to Messrs. J.J. Gregg & Co. in Graniteville, South Carolina. The letter which bears the date line of Augusta, (Ga.), Dec. 3d, 1862 discusses the cotton business. It is signed, "Very Truly, B.S. Dunbar." The letter was folded in such a way as to create a blank panel that was used in the same way that an envelope would be used to address the letter to the recipient....

Kelsey, Sutler..........Dollars, and deduct the amount from pay due me. Excellent condition. These checks were filled out by soldiers of the 6th Ohio Volunteers as an I.O.U. to the regimental sutler towards the purchase of his goods.
