Excavated along the Baltimore Pike, Gettysburg Battlefield
From the famous Rosensteel Gettysburg collection
Dropped .58 caliber, three ring "minie'" bullet. Although not round like their name indicates, these bullets were commonly known as "minie' balls," and were the regulation ammunition for the Springfield rifle musket and typical of the kind used by the armies of the North and the South during the War Between the States, 1861-65. Recovered along the Baltimore Pike, by the late Gettysburg relic hunter John Cullison, who excavated Civil War artifacts at Gettysburg from 1935-1959. Mr. Cullison passed it on to the famous Rosensteel family of Gettysburg where it remained in their private collection until it was released in 1996. Very popular Gettysburg relic, and a must have for any Gettysburg collection. Soldiers of both armies occupied ground along the Baltimore Pike during the battle of Gettysburg, July 1, 2, 3, 1863. |
