United States Congressman from Alabama
(1817-57) Born in Chester District, South Carolina, he graduated from the University of Alabama, in 1836, studied law, was admitted to the bar, and commenced a practice in Talladega, Ala. Was a member of the Alabama State House of Representatives, 1844-45, and served as a U.S. Congressman, 1846-51, and was the chairman, of the Committee on Public Buildings and Grounds.
