Dept. of Mass., G.A.R.
3 Boylston Place

Boston, Sept. 12th, 1890

Comrades of Gettysburg Post:

The requirements of my business are such that I can give no more time to Grand Army duties. I therefore tender my resignation as Commander of Gettysburg Post, to take effect from this date.

In retiring from the position of Commander, I return my sincere thanks to every individual comrade for the uniform courtesy and kindness with which you have treated me.

The Post is an assured success. It was not organized by "professional veterans." It is not composed of "professional veterans." It was organized on the right basis- that of independence. It has asked no favors of the general public or of individuals. It has been noted for harmony and true fraternity among its members. It has successfully carried out everything that it has undertaken and has ever been an honor to the Grand Army of the Republic. Its future, I doubt not will be as successful as its past. As a humble comrade I shall always be glad to contribute my share to its welfare. Wishing each and every comrade prosperity and happiness,

I am in F. C. & L.,

Yours with respect and esteem,

Harrison Hume

Light age toning and wear. Mounting traces on the reverse. Very fine.
