United States Congressman from Missouri
Member of the President Andrew Johnson Impeachment Congress
(1819-81) Born in Hardinsburg, Breckenridge County, Kentucky, he studied law and moved to St. Joseph, Mo., where he commenced a law practice in 1840. During the Civil War he served as Brigadier General, Missouri State Militia, 1861-63. Elected to the U.S. Congress, he was one of Missouri's representatives serving from 1863-69, including the President Andrew Johnson impeachment congress. He was chairman of the Committee for Revolutionary War Pensions. He was a delegate to the 1876 Republican National Convention.
