(1839-1902) Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, he graduated from Farmer's (later Belmont) College, in 1858, and was a lawyer and author. He had a gallant Civil War career serving in the 6th, 51st and 74th Ohio Infantry Regiments respectively. He later served on the staff of General William S. Rosecrans, and on the staff of General George H. Thomas. He was brevetted brigadier general on March 13, 1865, for gallantry in the battles of Stone's River, and Chickamauga.
