H, at Camp Manson, Ky., on the 13th day of August 1863, in obedience to order for supplies. Itemized listing includes hand vice, ball screws, screw drivers, gun tubes and cap boxes. The invoice is signed at the bottom, J.W. Gault, Col., 16th Ky. Inft.
There is an imprint on the reverse of the document titled, Officers Invoicing Ordnance Stores Should Observe, giving the instructions that were to be followed.
Light age toning and wear. Very fine. Kentucky Civil War material is always very desirable.
James W. Gault, enlisted on September 23, 1861, at Camp Lee, Ky., as a captain. He was promoted to major, March 15, 1862, lieutenant colonel, July 20, 1863, and colonel, June 3, 1863. He received special thanks in the battle report of Colonel W.A. Hoskins, of the 12th Kentucky Infantry, who was in command of the expedition which operated against Confederate General John Hunt Morgan on his second Kentucky raid, in December 1862 to January 1863. The 16th Kentucky Infantry also saw action in the Knoxville campaign, the Atlanta campaign, the Franklin and Nashville campaign and the 1865 Carolina's campaign. |
