Mar. 3d Div., 24th A.C., at Near Chapin's Farm, Va., on the 31st day of January 1865. The list includes ten pairs of handcuffs, three lanterns and one field desk, all in new condition. I certify that I have this day Transferred to C.G. Babcock, Capt. 96th N.Y. Vols. & Pro. Mar. 3d Div., 24th A.C., at Near Chapin's Farm, Va., the articles specified in the foregoing list. L.N. Levi N. Converse, who signed this document, was a 31 year old resident from Marlborough, N.H., when he enlisted as a sergeant, and was mustered into the 2nd New Hampshire Infantry. He was promoted to 1st sergeant, on September 1, 1861; 2nd lieutenant, on July 1, 1862; 1st lieutenant, on August 31, 1862; captain, on July 2, 1863; major, on May 18, 1865; and lieutenant colonel, November 1, 1865. He was mustered out of service on December 19, 1865, at City Point, Va.
He was severely wounded in the right arm, on July 2, 1863, during the battle of Gettysburg. The wound resulted in the amputation of his arm.
The hard fought 2nd New Hampshire Infantry saw action at 1st Bull Run, Yorktown, Williamsburg, Fair Oaks, Savage's Station, Glendale, Malvern Hill, Groveton, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, Cold Harbor, and Petersburg to name a few places.
