(1824-73) Born in Porter, Niagra County, N.Y. He served with the 3rd U.S. Artillery during the Mexican War. Commissioned Captain, 3rd Wisconsin Infantry, April 24, 1861. Promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, November 14, 1862; Colonel, June 29, 1864; Brevet Brigadier General, March 16, 1865 for gallantry in the Georgia and Carolina's campaigns. Mustered out of service July 18, 1865.
