to Gettysburg G.A.R. Post 191

3 pages, 5 x 8, in ink, written by Mrs. Henry Grant Weston, on imprinted letter sheet, Ladies Aid Association Of The Soldiers Home In Massachusetts, with names, titles, and addresses of the officers listed.

Ladies Aid Association of the Soldiers Home in Massachusetts,

Cam[bridge]port, 1896

To the Officers and members of Gettysburg Post 191, Dept. of Mass., G.A.R.

It was my privilege at our meeting at the Soldiers Home, June fourth, to speak of the work done by Gettysburg Post, [on] Memorial Day, at one lot in Forest Dale Cemetery, Walden, which resulted in my being able to send with this letter of thanks a testimonial more useful than words of the appreciation of the service you render on this sacred day of the Grand Army of the Republic. As your ranks grow thin, teach your sons and daughters that they must soon take up the work now done by you, and that Memorial Day is not a day for sports, but a day on which we pay respect to the memory of those who made it possible for all to enjoy the comforts and luxuries of a united nation under one glorious stars and stripes. Allow me here to thank you in the name of my family for your remembrance of my dear soldier father as I placed the flag you sent me above his loved form, the wind unfurled it, and your "In Memoriam" assured me that when I am gone some will not forget that soldier grave. Thanking you personally and also in the name of the association I represent, I am,

Respectfully,

Mrs. Henry Grant Weston

Cor. Sec. L.A.A. of the S.H.

Excellent condition. Superb content as written by the daughter of a Civil War veteran, and officer of the Ladies Aid Association of the Soldiers Home in Massachusetts.
