(1815-86) Graduated in the West Point class of 1835. He served in the Washington defenses during the first winter of the war, and was promoted to rank of brigadier general on Feb. 12, 1862. In General McClellan's Peninsular campaign he commanded a brigade of Keyes's 4th Corps. Upon the retirement of the Army of the Potomac from the Richmond vicinity, Naglee was retained in the Departments of North and South Carolina, and Virginia and North Carolina. In the summer of 1863 he was in command of the District of Virginia at Norfolk.
