Superb standing view in full dress uniform with rank of major general, wearing epaulettes, cape, sash, gloves, ornate belt, and holding his sword, and 1832 pattern chapeau with eagle, scroll, ring of stars, and feathers. Backmark: E. & H.T. Anthony, New York, made from a photographic negative in Brady's National Portrait Gallery. Bottom of the mount is trimmed. Sharp image. Great content. This image is published in the book, "American Military Headgear Insignia" by J. Duncan Campbell and Michael J. O'Donnell. It is attributed to the United States Military History Institute, Carlisle, Pa., and they date the image to 1855. |
