4 pages. Advertisement on the front page for an auctioneer and commission merchant that advertises the goods they will sell among which is listed negroes at 1 per cent commission. Other ads for naval stores purchased, manufactured and sold; for the sale of cotton; and cotton gins; interesting ad to cotton planters for the admirable patent invention of cotton ties; sale of gun powder; sale of Yankee notions and perfume; numerous medical related ads, groceries and all kinds of assorted goods; the Wilmington Iron and Copper Works advertises that they are practical builders of portable and stationary steam engines; the Baltimore Lock Hospital, Established as a Refuge From Quackery; ads for wine, ale and champagne; and much more. Some of the news includes: Democratic Meeting- Breckenridge & Lane Club. The State of Things in Robeson County. The Florida Election. Stephen A. Douglas. Ad for W.C. Howard, Broker and Auctioneer, listing negroes as one of the things they sell. Auctions, ships, shipping, railroads, etc. Slave Sale: NEGRO WOMAN FOR SALE. A Likely Negro Woman, 23 years of age; a good Cook, Washer and Ironer- sound and healthy. Sold for no fault. For sale by Gwyer, Peacock & Co. Wanted Ad: A GOOD FEMALE SERVANT, who can do plain Cooking. Ad for George Kidd's Cotton Gin. Much more. Left edge of the newspaper shows typical chipping from once being in a bound volume. Overall in very fine condition. Nice North Carolina newspaper from shortly before the commencement of the War Between The States.
