Circular No. 2

"Liberty and Union, one and inseparable."- Webster

Headquarters of
William Logan Rodman Post No. 1
of New Bedford, Department of Massachusetts,
GRAND ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC

Thomas W. Cook, Commander

Commander And Comrades:

The details contained in our former circular have evoked such general commendation that the committee of arrangements are encouraged to believe that no patriotic suggestion since the close of the war has met with a wider and more universal approval.

The Liberty Tree which for 119 years stood in Boston and which was destroyed by the British in 1775 simply because it inspired our fathers to defend their liberties was accidental in its origin; but the tree to be planted on October 6th, 1896, is selected expressly for its association with the name of Washington. Hence, all in homage to his world wide fame, gratefully concur in rendering its intended planting of historic interest.

Much more excellent content. Also includes the names of the various committees involved with the individuals comprising said committees. Click on the enlargement to see the complete text of the circular. Very fine condition.
