Commander And Comrades:

The details contained in our former circular have evoked such general commendation that the committee of arrangements are encouraged to believe that no patriotic suggestion since the close of the war has met with a wider and more universal approval.

The Liberty Tree which for 119 years stood in Boston and which was destroyed by the British in 1775 simply because it inspired our fathers to defend their liberties was accidental in its origin; but the tree to be planted on October 6th, 1896, is selected expressly for its association with the name of Washington. Hence, all in homage to his world wide fame, gratefully concur in rendering its intended planting of historic interest.
