RECEIPT ROLL OF CLOTHING ISSUED TO 2ND MICHIGAN CAVALRY (Image1)

Signed by 29 cavalry troopers including 2 wounded in action at Ackworth, Ga.!

14 x 16 1/2, imprinted form, filled out in ink.

We, the undersigned, Non Commissioned Officers, Artificers, Musicians, and Privates of Co. F, 2nd Mich.[igan] Cavalry, do hereby acknowledge to have received of Capt. M.H. Creager, the several articles of Clothing set opposite our respective names. Itemized 1865 account from Macon, Ga. for hats, blouses, trowsers, flannel shirts, drawers, cavalry boots, bootees, stockings, great coats, fatigue overalls, stable frocks, blankets, canteens, haversacks, etc. The document has been signed by 29 troopers of Co. F, 2nd Michigan Cavalry and also signed as witness 29 separate times by Lieutenant Sherk Miller. Very fine condition. Very desirable cavalry regiment!

This clothing roll has been signed by the following troopers of Co. F, 2nd Michigan Cavalry: William E. Root, John Blackman, Michael H. Powers, Andrew Bradford, George Howard, Francis Chamberlain (WIA, May 27, 1864, Ackworth, Ga.), Edgar B. Chase, Sherk Miller (he was Lieutenant of Co. F. His name appears as one of the men who received clothing and he has also signed the document an additional 29 times as the witness for these clothing issues), Osborn Degraw, Philip Arthur, Jremiah Blackmer, William [?], George Ruthardt, George Dart, Charles M. Murray, Henry C. Worden, Samuel A. Vliet, Andrew S. Keeney, Sidney M. Shelley, Joseph Baranoski, Thales L. Chapin, Seymour N. Hall, Theron J. Fox (WIA, May 26, 1864, Ackworth, Ga.), Paul Snyder, Joel S. Beeman, Alonzo Matteson, Colonel C. Burgess, Martin W. Barnard and Julius Otto.

The hard fought 2nd Michigan Cavalry saw action at Point Pleasant, Tiptonville, New Madrid, Island No. 10, Corinth, Perryville, Thompson's Station, Boonville, Spring Hill, Chickamauga, the Georgia campaign, Nashville, and Franklin, to name but a very few places that they were engaged during the Civil War. Two of the regiment's commanders went on to become prominent Union Generals, Gordon Granger and Philip H. Sheridan.
