Written by Mrs. E.A. Parkhurst. Published by Horace Waters, 481 Broadway, New York. 1865 imprint date. The inside pages containing the music have thick black mourning borders. Light age toning and some small edge tears and wear. Slight paper loss at lower left edge of cover. This does not affect any content. Please note that the sheet music is wider than illustrated because the original item is wider than the scanning area of our scanner. Very desirable Lincoln mourning item.
Mrs. E.A. Parkhurst: (1836-1918) Mrs. Parkhurst had a long and illustrious career as a composer. She wrote all types of music including gospel, abolitionist, political, patriotic songs in support of the Union cause during the Civil War, but was probably best known for her temperance songs. Two of her most famous ones were, "Don't Marry A Man If He Drinks," and "Father's A Drunkard & Mother's Dead." |
