ARMY REGISTER
LETTER FROM THE SECRETARY OF WAR
Transmitting Transcript of the Official Army Register
February 23, 1854- Ordered to be printed
War Department, Washington, February 17, 1854
Sir: In compliance with a resolution of the House of Representatives of June 14, 1848, I have the honor to transmit herewith a transcript of the official Army Register for the year ending 30th June, 1853, showing the annual pay of each officer of the army, the amount paid him for rations, servants, and forage, and the gross amount paid or allowed him in all respects, for and on his account, for and during the proceeding fiscal year.
Very respectfully, your obedient servant,
JEFFN. DAVIS Secretary of War
Hon. Linn Boyd Speaker of the House of Representatives
This Army Register submitted by Jefferson Davis to the U.S. Congress is virtually a who's who of future Civil War generals. Seven years from the date of Jefferson Davis' transmittal letter he would be President of the Confederate States of America, and many of the officers listed in this register would be fighting against him. Missing wraps otherwise in excellent condition. Very desirable!
