CONFEDERATE SOLDIER COVER MAILED AT CHARLESTON, S.C. (Image1)

Postally used Confederate envelope addressed in ink to Mrs. Margaret Thomas, New Center, York District, S.C. Postmarked at Charleston, S.C., Jul. 21, with stamped [due] 10 in black. Soldier's ID at left edge, from private J.A. Thomas, Co. F, C.[harleston] B.[attalion]. There is a notation written on the back flap, A.J. Bigger is well. Light age toning and wear.

J.A. Thomas, and A.J. Biggers, both served in Co. F, Charleston Battalion, also known as the 1st South Carolina Infantry Battalion.

The Charleston Battalion was organized at Charleston, S.C., in March 1862. They served in the Department of South Carolina, Georgia and Florida, and saw action at Secessionville, Charleston and James Island.
