Excellent content concerning the Bureau of Freedmen. Light edge wear, otherwise in excellent condition.

The Bureau of Freedmen and Refugees, also known as the Freedmen's Bureau, was established by Congress, on March 3, 1865, and its principal function was to aid freed former slaves in the South. It operated as part of the U.S. War Department, and was commanded by General Oliver O. Howard.
