Document Signed Twice Wounded five times during the Civil War! (1834-1915) Commanded a company of Missouri Militia at the battles of Carthage, Wilson's Creek and Elkhorn. Afterwards he commanded the Missouri Brigade at Vicksburg where he was captured. Appointed brigadier general, July 18, 1863, he led his brigade in the Atlanta campaign, and in Hood's Tennessee campaign. He was severely wounded at Franklin, Tenn., and captured at Mobile, Ala. in 1865, and by the war's end had been wounded 5 times. After the war he served as a U.S. Senator from Missouri. Document Signed: 7 3/4 x 12 1/4, manuscript in ink. This is a Johnson County, Missouri, Circuit Court legal document, dated March 21, 1860, concerning a promissory note. Cockrell is serving as attorney for the plaintiff and has signed, Francis M. Cockrell, twice in the body of the document. Embossed Johnson County Circuit Court seal at lower left. Some scattered light staining and light wear. Pair of strong signatures of this Confederate general.
