Date of Desertion: Jany. 1863. Supposed Whereabouts: Houston Township, Clearfield Co., Pa. Remarks: Franklin Livingston was left sick at Belhmore Roads, Va., about May 21, 1862, was taken by the Rebels after the retreat of the army from Richmond, paroled & sent North, exchanged & went to his home in Clearfield Co. where he now is by whose authority I know not. The above is a list of the deserters of Co. D, with date of desertion & supposed whereabouts. Very respectfully, Levi Bird Duff, Capt. Comdg. Co. D, 105 P.V. To: Lieut. Hugh Nisbet, Actg. Adjt. 105th P.V. Light wear and scattered staining. Levi Bird Duff, enlisted on May 1, 1861, as a corporal, and was mustered into Co. A, 38th Pennsylvania Infantry. He was discharged for promotion on Feb. 8, 1862, when he was commissioned captain, Co. D, 105th Pennsylvania Infantry. He was wounded in action on May 31, 1862, in the battle of Fair Oaks, Va. He was promoted to major on May 4, 1863. He was wounded in action on June 18, 1864, at Petersburg, Va. His right leg was so severely wounded that it had to be amputated. He was discharged for his wounds on Oct. 25, 1864. The hard fought 105th Pennsylvania Infantry saw action in many of the Civil War's greatest battles including; Yorktown, Williamsburg, Fair Oaks, Glendale, Malvern Hill, 2nd Bull Run, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Kelly's Ford, the Mine Run campaign, the Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Petersburg and Sailor's Creek.
