1864 LETTER CONCERNING MUSTER OUT OF PRIVATE (Image1) IN 13TH MASSACHUSETTS INFANTRY

7 3/4 x 10, in ink. Hd. Qrs. Dept. of Washn., 22d A.[rmy] Corps, Washington, D.C., Aug. 6th/64. Major S. Breck, Asst. Adjt. Genl. Sir: Will you please grant authority to muster out of the service viz. the mustering officer of this Dept., Pvt. J.S. Lockwood, Co. A, 13th Mass. Infty. who has been on special service at these Hd. Qrs. since December 1863, by order of the War Dept. (S.O. 580/63). His Regt. was mustered out of the service on Monday last (Aug. 1st) at Boston. I am Major, Very Respectfully, Your Obdt. Servt., C.H. Raymond, A.A.G. Light age toning and wear.

John S. Lockwood, was a 22 year old resident of Boston, Mass., when he enlisted as a private, on Aug. 8, 1862, and was mustered into Co. A, 13th Massachusetts Infantry. He was mustered out of service on Aug. 8, 1864.
