Grain and hay are positively prohibited from being exported out of Tennessee!

5 x 7 3/4, imprint.

Headquarters, Military Division of the Mississippi, Nashville, Tenn., July 13, 1864. General Orders, No. 20. I. The grain and hay raised in the State of Tennessee being required for the use of the Army, its exportation from the State is positively prohibited. II. The Quartermaster's Department will purchase the grain and hay required for consumption by the Army. By order of Major General W.T. Sherman. R.M. Sawyer, Assistant Adjutant General. There are 3 thin slits to the left edge where this document was once bound in an officer's order book. They are well away from any of the content. Very light soiling at lower right corner and some light edge wear.
