5TH ALABAMA INFANTRY SOLDIER COVER (Image1)

Return address at top, From Private W.B. Saunders, Comp. B, 5th Ala. Reg., 12 Mos. Vols., Col. Rhodes, Comdg. Addressed to George B. Saunders, Esq., Livingston, Sumter County, Alabama. Manuscript Due 10 written at upper right. Very fine, Confederate used soldier envelope.

The 5th Alabama Infantry served in the Army of Northern Virginia and saw action at Williamsburg, Seven Pines (27 killed, 128 wounded), Malvern Hill (92 killed and wounded), Chancellorsville (24 killed, 133 wounded), Gettysburg (190 killed and wounded), the Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbor, and surrendered at Appomattox with 4 officers and 53 men.
