CONFEDERATE COVER WITH CHARLESTON, S.C. POSTMARK (Image1)

Postally used, Confederate envelope, addressed in ink, to Mrs. P.H. Nelson, Stateburg, S.C., with 10 cents Jefferson Davis, Confederate postage stamp, tied on with C.D.S., Charleston, S.C., Oct. 21. Light age toning. Back flap is torn where the envelope was opened.

Charleston, South Carolina is where the Civil War began on April 12, 1861, when Fort Sumter was fired upon by Confederate batteries. Stateburg is located in Sumter County, S.C.
