These hair strands originated from the estate of Mrs. Caroline Wright, wife of Governor Joseph A. Wright, of Indiana. The Lincoln's and the Wright's were good friends and the hair locks were given to Mrs. Wright by the Lincoln's just after Lincoln’s 1865 Inauguration. Mrs. Wright collected hair locks from famous personalities and these were given to her by the Lincoln's as a token of their friendship. This hair relic consists of several small strands of hair that are encased with a 3X magnified cover to amplify the hair for better viewing. The 8 x 10...

The period note that was attached to this souvenir fabric remnant attests that it was removed from the Presidential chair of Jefferson Davis in the Confederate House of Representatives, on April 3rd, 1865, as Union troops and support forces entered the city. Imprinted paper badge, G.P. Dow, Co. C, 7 N.H.V. Comes with a note which reads: Note: G.P. Dow's Ensignia, Co. C, 7th N.H. Vol., John's friend, he and George fought in battles in and around Petersburg, and Richmond, VA. in Grant's VA. Campaign 1864. Traded their Company's Ensignia's with each other. The note appears to be vintage 1950's or 1960's. The insignia has a few tiny pin holes in it. Very neat item. Scarce.

A Star From Old Glory Display

The large star on a field of blue, and red/white fabric, were once part of a large 34 star United States flag that flew during the Civil War. The 34 star pattern was flown from July 4, 1861, to July 3, 1863, when West Virginia was admitted to the Union. While the flag that this star and blue fabric came from was in tatters, it measured approximately 10 by 16 feet.
