To The United Daughters Of The Confederacy: The undersigned, residing at Bonnerton, N.C., who is an ex-Confederate soldier, but not a member of any Camp, hereby, at your request, presents this Certificate of Eligibility for a Southern Cross of Honor. States that he served in the 40th Regiment N.C. Volunteers, and was a prisoner of war for 5 months. Signed, Respectfully, James Rice. To the United Daughters of the Confederacy: The undersigned, residing at Chocowinity, who is an Ex-Confederate Soldier, but not a member of any Camp, hereby makes application for a Confederate Cross of Honor. Applicant entered the service of the Confederate States on about the 1st day of March 1861, as a private of the 31st Regiment of North Carolina Volunteers, C.S.A., and was at that time a resident of Chocowinity.
