CDV Abraham Lincoln Home, Springfield, Illinois

This was the only house that Abraham Lincoln ever owned. He bought it in 1844 from the Reverend Charles Dresser, who married the Lincoln's in 1842.

Wet plate, albumen carte de visite photograph, mounted to 2 3/8 x 4 card. Age toning, corner wear, and scattered spotting. Backmark: S.I. & C.W. Hallett, 134 & 136 Bowery, near Grand St., N.Y.

Famous for The Emancipation Proclamation, freeing the slaves, and the Gettysburg Address, at the dedication of the Gettysburg National Cemetery. His second term in the White House was cut short when he became the first American President to be assassinated. He was shot by the famous actor, John Wilkes Booth, at Ford's Theatre, Washington, D.C., on the evening of April 14, 1865, dying early the next morning.

Wet plate, albumen carte de visite photograph, mounted to 2 3/8 x 3 3/4 card. Artist rendition of President Lincoln and the first lady. No actual photographs were ever taken of Abraham Lincoln and Mary Todd Lincoln together. Imprint on front, Entered according to act of Congress in the year 1865 by Frank Noe in the Clerk's office of the district Court of Eastern district of Pennsylvania. With title, Mr. Lincoln and Wife. Card is trimmed. A few scattered stains. Corner and edge wear. Scarce cdv.
