Cabinet Card Photo, General Ulysses S. Grant & Family

(1822-1885) Graduated in the West Point class of 1843. Fought in the Mexican War. Commander-in-Chief of all Union armies 1863-65. He fought at Shiloh, Vicksburg, the Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbor and the Appomattox campaign. Served as 18th President of the United States 1869-77.

Wet plate, albumen cabinet card photograph, mounted to 6 1/2 x 4 1/4 card. This view was taken on the front porch of Grant's upstate New York home, called Mt. McGregor, only a month before he died. Grant is seated on a chair in the center, wearing a top hat. His...

CDV General Duncan Lamont Clinch

Hero of the Florida Seminole War of the 1830's

A fort in Florida is named for him. A native of North Carolina, he served in the U.S. Army from 1808-36. Died in 1849. His son, Duncan Lamont Clinch, Jr., fought for the Confederacy during the Civil War, as Colonel of the 4th Georgia Cavalry. His daughter Eliza was married to Major Robert Anderson of Fort Sumter fame.

Wet plate, albumen carte de visite photograph, mounted to 2 3/8 x 4 card. Bust view in uniform with rank of brigadier general. Backmark: E. Anthony. Excellent condition.

2 1/4 x 3 5/8, tintype only. Full standing view of a pair of men both wearing hats, leather boots with their pants tucked inside of them, and both are armed with holstered pistols on their belt. The man at the right has on a gun belt, with 3 bullets visible, and a large revolver. He is also smoking a pipe. Nice content.

There is a soldier standing at the near side of the wagon, a soldier in the wagon, and a soldier on horseback on opposite side of the wagon. Card is trimmed. Light age toning. There is an old period pencil ID on the reverse: Water Wagon at Fort Sill, Ind.[ian] Ter[ritor]y., with two names, McGrann, with 11 Inf. below the name, and Enright, 4 Cav., below that name. This image is certainly worthy...

Full standing view wearing a jacket with brass buttons, what appears to be a military vest, porkpie style hat, and posing with one hand on the back of a wooden chair. CDV Lieutenant Colonel Paul Von Radowitz

Born in Prussia, he was the son of the Prussian Minister of War. He enlisted on Sept. 30, 1861, and was commissioned lieutenant colonel, U.S. Volunteers Aide-De-Camp. He served on the staff of General George B. McClellan, 1861-62, and with the Army of the Potomac, until his muster out of service, July 12, 1865.

Wet plate, albumen carte de visite photograph, mounted to 2 3/8 x 4 card. Bust view pose. No backmark. Inscription on the reverse, Count Paul Radowitz, A.D.C., U.S.A. Army of Potomac. Light age toning and wear. Very fine. Scarce.

CDV, H.M.S. Minotaur

A 10,690 ton broadside ironclad war ship, she was built at Blackwall, England, and was one of six vessels that were built to the original British concept of an armored battleship. A very long and relatively fast iron hulled steamer, carrying an extensive sail rig and a large battery of medium sized guns, she was also one of three ships with five masts, and her gun deck was almost completely coated with iron armor. Her keel was laid in 1861, she was launched in December 1863, and was decommissioned in 1887.

Very rare, Civil War period photograph of a gatling gun. I believe this image was taken at one of the 1864 Sanitary Commission...
