Wet plate, albumen carte de visite photograph, mounted to 2 3/8 x 3 3/4 card. Mount is trimmed. Excellent view of 5 soldiers of the famous 7th New York posing in front of a tent. The four men at the left are wearing the distinctive gray uniforms of the 7th New York, two wearing their white cross belts, with various accoutrements visible including a knapsack with the numeral 7 and a musket. The officer at far right is Captain John Monroe. He is wearing a regulation frock coat with shoulder straps, kepi, eagle sword belt plate, sash, and holding his sword...

This was the only house that Abraham Lincoln ever owned. He bought it in 1844 from the Reverend Charles Dresser, who married the Lincoln's in 1842.

(1813-1861) An outstanding legislator, and orator, he was one of the founders of the Democratic Party in Illinois. Served as U.S. Senator, 1843-61. He is best known for his debates in 1858 against Abraham Lincoln. He was narrowly defeated for the Democratic nomination for president by Franklin Buchanan in 1856. CDV General William T. Sherman On Horseback

In The Breastworks Near Atlanta

(1820-1891) Graduated #6 in the West Point class of 1840. Rising to be one of the Union's most renowned military leaders, Sherman saw action at 1st Bull Run, Shiloh, Chickasaw Bluffs, Arkansas Post, Vicksburg, Missionary Ridge, Atlanta, the infamous March to the Sea, and the 1865 Carolina's campaign. He received the surrender of Confederate General Joseph E. Johnston's army at Greensboro, N.C., on April 26, 1865.

Killed in 1862 at Chantilly, Va.

(1818-62) Graduated #1 in the West Point class of 1839. He served throughout the Mexican War and was severely wounded in the assault on Mexico City, and was brevetted captain and major for gallantry. Upon the outbreak of the Civil War in 1861, he was appointed colonel of the 79th New York Infantry, known as the "Highlanders."
